11th IEF and 3rd IEBF

PRESS RELEASE: The 7 JODI organizations call on Ministers to reaffirm their commitment to JODI

JODI Heads of Delegation met in Rome 21 April 2008, on the occasion of the 11th IEF Ministerial Meeting to discuss progress and development of the Initiative

Rome was the venue for the 11th International Energy Forum (IEF) and 3rd International Energy Business Forum (IEBF). The biennial Forum took place from 20 – 22 April 2008 and was hosted by the Italian Government with India and Mexico as co-hosts. This year the Forum addressed the theme Energy Dialogue to Respond to Global Challenges.

The IEF Ministerial is the largest gathering of Energy Ministers at a single event anywhere in the world and the associated IEBF is now attended by the CEOs of over 30 national and international companies – As they met at a time of unprecedented high energy prices and increasing concern over energy security and global warming as well as geopolitical tensions - all were keen to take part in frank and informal exchange that is a unique characteristic of this Forum.

JODI was in the spotlight once again. Both Forums provided a timely opportunity for JODI partners to update Ministers on the progress made as well as on the issues faced by the organizations since the 10th IEF Ministerial. At the IEF, Heads of Delegation of the seven partner organisations met to determine the next steps in the development/evolution of the initiative.

JODI partner organizations are greatly encouraged in their efforts by the regular references to JODI manifested by energy Ministers around the globe. However, sustained and additional efforts are still required and was a subject of discussion by Ministers.

The IEF Ministerial was organized in four sessions:

·         Enhancing Energy Resource Availability

·         Ensuring Energy Investment

·         Towards a Sustainable Energy Future

·         The IEF for Global Energy Security and Dialogue

Recognizing the key role of industry in enacting change and responding to the challenges and opportunities presented by global interdependence the IEBF was also organized in four sessions:

·         Energy partnerships

·         Energy investments

·         Reducing market uncertainties

·         Technology and human resources
