Regional JODI Training Workshops

Over last three years, IEF and its JODI partner organizations have prepared a series of regional training workshops on JODI. Through these workshops, we help our participating countries to report better quality data in the JODI questionnaire. These workshops offer participants in charge of oil statistics from governments an occasion to clarify JODI definitions and to learn more about data quality assessment techniques. These workshops are also a good opportunity to share their best practices on data validation or to discuss their issues on data collections.

The first regional JODI training workshop was held in August 2006, in Caracas, Venezuela, for energy statisticians from Latin-American countries. It was hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum of Venezuela and the Venezuelan national oil company, PDVSA. More than 30 officials who are in charge of oil statistics from 14 OLADE member countries attended this workshop.

The second workshop took place in January 2007 for Sub-Saharan African Countries, in Johannesburg, South Africa. At the opening session, H.E. Buyelwa Patience Sonjica, Minister of Minerals and Energy of South Africa, voiced her country’s support for JODI.

In October 2007, the third workshop was addressed to officials from Middle East and North African countries in Algiers, Algeria. This event was under the support of the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Algeria. Expert speakers from the IEF Secretariat, IEA, OPEC, UNSD and the IMF contributed to the workshop.

The fourth workshop was delivered to Asia Pacific region in September 2008 in Bangkok, Thailand. 37 officials from 15 APEC member countries/economies participated in this workshop.

The 5th took place in Ankara, Turkey from 18 to 20 November 2009, hosted by Turkish Petroleum A.O. (TPAO). The Ankara training workshop addressed 37 officials in charge of energy and oil data collection from 12 different countries.

These workshops are also an opportunity to invite representatives from countries/economies to join our initiative with our hope to archive complete geographical coverage.

JODI Internships

The government of Norway has provided the IEF Secretariat additional funding to promote JODI among developing countries. This enables the IEF Secretariat to offer short-term internships at the IEF Secretariat Headquarters in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for officials in developing countries dealing directly with oil market statistics.

A primary objective of the internships would be to strengthen working level contacts between the country in question and the JODI partner organizations as well as to improve and maintain the quality of national data submissions to JODI.

Participants in the three JODI Internship sessions

The IEF Secretariat has invited IEF and JODI participating countries to forward applications from interested candidates in their relevant energy agencies.

The IEF Secretariat already held three JODI Internship sessions where representatives from Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Azerbaijan and Myanmar participated. Additional sessions are planned in 2011.
