Regional JODI Training Workshops
For more than one year
now, the JODI partner organizations, organize regional training
workshops on JODI. The purpose of these training workshops is to help
participating countries to report better quality data in the JODI
questionnaire; to offer participants an opportunity to get
clarifications about the definitions, data quality assessment and oil
data issues; and to share their experience on data validation best
practices or data collections issues.
The JODI partner organizations held the first
regional JODI Training Workshop in August 2006, in Caracas, Venezuela,
for energy statisticians from Latin-American countries. It was hosted by
the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum of Venezuela and the Venezuelan
national oil company, PDVSA. More than 30 delegates, whose job is to
collect oil data in 14 of the OLADE member countries, attended the
workshop.
The second regional JODI Training Workshop took place in January 2007
for Sub-Saharan African Countries, in Johannesburg, South Africa. At the
opening session, H.E. Buyelwa Patience Sonjica, Minister of Minerals and
Energy of South Africa, voiced her country’s support for JODI.
In October 2007, the IEF Secretariat, in cooperation with its JODI
partner organizations, and the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Algeria,
organized the third regional JODI Training Workshop, in Algiers,
Algeria. Expert speakers from the IEF Secretariat, IEA, OPEC, UNSD and
the IMF addressed officials from Middle East and North African
countries. The workshop was also an opportunity to present JODI to
representatives of countries from the region that not yet participating
in JODI, with the objective to expand JODI geographical coverage.
Other regional JODI training workshops will be organized in 2008.
