The JODI-Gas Information Session was held on the sideline of the 5th GECF Summit in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea on 26 November. HE Gabriel Obiang Lima, Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons of Equatorial Guinea opened the Information Session along with HE Yury P. Sentyurin, Secretary General of Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and HE Sun Xiansheng, Secretary General of the International Energy Forum (IEF).
The JODI-Gas Information Session was a unique opportunity for delegates attending the 5th GECF Summit to deliberate on the benefit of energy data transparency and to exchange valuable feedback among policy makers and industry leaders in Africa on the topic of JODI data quality and its outreach. The discussions and exchange of ideas during the Information Session helped not only to strengthen existing JODI activities, but also to serve as a catalyst to enhance the role of the Initiative beyond its current framework.
IEF Ministers at the IEF16 Ministerial Meeting in India (April 2018) stressed their continuous supports for improving global energy market transparency and for a strengthened JODI. In this regard, IEF16 Ministers applauded the progress by the Initiative since the adoption of the JODI 5-Year Action Plan at the IEF15 (Algiers, 2016).
The JODI Information Session hosted by the GECF in Equatorial Guinea was in line with key actions stated in the Action Plan which calls for:
- Raising awareness of the JODI cooperation platform and database
- Identifying and engaging champions for JODI
By putting the Action Plan into practice, JODI partners spare no efforts to meet with key stakeholders around the world to deliver JODI aspirations for:
- Stronger commitment
- Well-trained professionals
